"There are moments in life that change everything. There are those experiences that can never be forgotten. To truly experience them, we must to be open to their possibility, recognize them when they come, and in recognizing them, celebrate them to the fullest. Life is too short to do anything else!"
Capturing the Beauty of Our World
Welcome to my website. I am honored that you have taken the time to visit my world. I am excited to share the many stories that I have had the opportunity to tell through my photography.
My name is John Hummel and I have been taking photographs since I was 7 years old. I have had a life-long fascination with the beauty of the world as seen through the lens of my camera. My photography has been one of the greatest gifts in my life. It has allowed me to see the unique beauty of the world around me no matter where my life has led me. One of my great loves has been the opportunity to share that incredible beauty with others through my images.
Most of my life I have worked with medium format black and white film, loving the inter-play of light and shadow that black and white imaging provides. in 2001,with the advent of digital photography, I added color images to my repertoire, loving the richness of color’s variations that nature has to offer. The body of my work has been in the area of nature with a focus on landscapes, seascapes and wildlife.
I hope that you will linger a while in my Portfolio and find some pleasure in the images of the world we share!
Thank you, again, for the gift of your visit!
A Memorable Project
From August 1st to August 7th, 2017, I had the pleasure to lead a photography workshop on Whidbey Island, Washington, for the Pacific Northwest Art school. It was a great time with some great people who shared much with me. Below are some of my images from that week.
